Reactions of pyrazoles with N-chlorothiophthalimide

N-Chlorothiophthalimide reacts with 3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazol-5(4H)-one and 3,5-dimethyl-1-phenylpyrazole to give the corresponding bis(4-pyrazolyl) sulfides. The reaction of N-chlorothiophthalimide with 3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazol-5(4H)-one in the presence of 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene yields 3′,4,5-trimethyl-1′-phenyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-thiopyran-2-spiro-4′-pyrazole-5(4H)-one, and with 5-ethoxy-3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazole, 5-ethoxy-3-methyl-1-phenyl-4-phthalimidothiopyrazole is formed which reacts with amines to afford the corresponding 4-aminothio derivatives.
