Preparation and Characterization of Chlorophenoxy Derivatives of Titanium(IV)

Titanium(IV) chloride on reacting with o-chlorophenol in different molar ratios in benzene under different experimental conditions forms compounds of composition Ti(OC6H4Cl)nCl4-n where n = 1-4.Based upon elemental analyses, conductance, molecular weight and IR spectral studies, the compounds have been assigned dimeric structures bridging through chlorophenoxy groups.Stability of the chlorophenoxy bridges in these compounds has been examined in the presence of nucleophilic reagents by isolating their addition compounds with tertiary bases.Thermal decomposition mode of these compounds has been studied by TGA.
