The respective biacetylenes were obtained by the oxidative condensation of 3-propargylindole with phenylacetylene and various acetylenic carbinols. 1-Phenyl-5-(3-indolyl)-1,3-pentadiyne was also obtained alternatively by the reaction of 3-propargylindole with phenylbromoacetylene by the Cadiot-Chodkiewicz reaction. 1-Bromo-3-(5-bromoindolyl)propyne and 1-bromo-3-(5,7-dibromoindolyl)propyne were synthesized by the bromination of 3-propargylindole.
