On the reaction of [(η5-C5Me5)Ru(CO)3] +BF4- with silylated lithium phosphides. Crystal and molecular structure of (η5-C5Me5)(CO) 2RuC(O)P(t-Bu)(SiMe3)

The reaction of [(η5-C5Me5)Ru(CO)3] +BF4- with Li[PR(SiMe3)] in diethyl ether at -78°C afforded the novel phosphinocarbonyl complexes (η5-C5Me5)(CO) 2RuC(O)PR(SiMe3) (R = SiMe3, t-Bu, Ph). Only the derivative with R = t-Bu could be isolated from the reaction mixture as yellow air-sensitive crystals. The other compounds decomposed to the phosphido complexes (η5-C5Me5)(CO)2RuPR(SiMe 3) (R = Me3Si, Ph) which were also synthesized by treating (η5-C5Me5)(CO)2RuBr with Li[PR(SiMe3)]. The novel coordination compounds were characterized by elemental analyses and spectroscopic methods (IR and 1H, 13C, and 31P NMR spectroscopy). The molecular structure of (η5-C5Me5)(CO) 2RuC(O)(t-Bu)(SiMe3) was established by a complete single-crystal diffraction study [P21/c space group, Z = 4, a = 16.256 (8) A?, b = 8.816 (5) A?, c = 18.016 (7) A?, β = 115.07 (3)°].
