The reactions of N-acetyl isatin and N-propionyl isatin with morpholine, piperazine and diethylamine in acetonitrile underwent nucleophilic substitution reactions at the amide linkage with ring opening process to give N-[2-(2-amino-2-oxo-acetyl)phenyl]ace
Palladium-Catalyzed Carbonylation of Aromatic Aldehydes and Hydrocarbons. A Novel Synthetic Route to α-Keto Amides via C-H Activation

Aromatic aldehydes (ArCHO: quinoline-8-carbaldehyde and o-(N,N-dimethylamino)benzaldehyde) react with tetrachloropalladate(II) through a C-H activation reaction to give the corresponding aroylpalladium complexes, which afford α-keto amides in high yields upon carbonylation with piperidine.Attempts for double carbonylation through ortho-palladation reactions of aromatic hydrocarbons are also reported.
