A new method for the synthesis of diolic phosphatidic acids is proposed that is based on the alkylation of potassium salts of higher carboxylic acids by cyclic alkylene phosphates. The initial compounds for the phospholipid synthesis, namely neutral alkylene phosphates and amidophosphates, are prepared by the Todd-Atherton oxidative phosphorylation of morpholine and trichloroethanol by ethylene and trimethylene phosphates.

As a result of the oxidative phosphorylation of diols by dialkyl phosphites only the monophosphorylated diols are formed.The obtained hydroxyethyl (propyl) dimethyl and diethyl phosphates were acylated by stearoyl chloride and were converted by removal of the protecting alkyl groups into stearoyloxyethyl(propyl)phosphoric acid.A method was developed for the synthesis of the thio analogs of diolic phosphatidic acids with the use of an ethylene protecting group, which was removed with potassium cyanide.
