chemical properties propiconazole is light yellow viscous liquid. b.p. 180 ° c / 13.32 pa, vapor pressure 0.133 × 10-3pa (20 ° c), relative density 1.27 (20 ° c), refractive index n20d1.5468. it has the mutual solubility with acetone, methanol, isopropyl alcohol and other organic solvents. its solubility is 110mg / l. light in the water of 20 ° c. propiconazole is stable to heat, acid, alkali and it is non-corrosive to metal.
uses (1) propiconazole is a kind of systemic triazole fungicide with the protective and therapeutic effects, and belongs to the inhibitor for the biosynthesis of ergosterol. ergosterol plays an important role in the formation of fungal cell membrane. through disturbing the demethylation of c14 to harper the biosynthesis of ergosterol, propiconazole can destroy the growth and reproduction of fungi, thus playing a protective and therapeutic role.except that propiconazole is invalid to the algae disease, it is effective to a variety of diseases of food, vegetables, fruits and ornamental plants caused by the ascomycetes, basidiomycetes, semi-fungus fungi, especially for wheat root rot , powdery mildew, rice bakanae disease, all kinds of rust, leaf spot, blight, smut, etc. however, it is effective to oomycota. the residual period is 3 to 5 weeks. to control wheat powdery mildew, stripe rust, root rot, use 25% ec 5ml / 100m2 11.25kg with water spray in the early stages of the disease; to control wheat blight sprouting ,spray propiconazole at booting; for barley leaf rust, netblotch and oat crown rust control, it can be sprayed with the same dose.

production methods the 2,4-dichlorophenyl ketone is first brominated to produce 2,4-dichlorophenyl bromomethyl ketone. then it is reacted with toluene solvent to generate the corresponding ketal in the presence of 2,4-dichlorophenyl bromomethyl ketone and 1,2-pentanediol. next it is reacted with 1h-1,2,4-triazole in dimethylformamide to obtain propiconazole.
