silvery white, lustrous, solid metal. soluble in sulfuric acid, nitric acid, potassium hydroxide and potassium cyanide solution. insoluble in water. imparts garlic-like odor to breath, can be depilatory. it is a p-type semiconductor and its conductivity is sensitive to light exposure.
