  • Onion is a liliaceous plant that is familiar to people. Many people think that it is originated from western countries. But actually, it was originally planted in China. Ancient Chinese books recorded that it was planted during the Tang nasty and then introduced to India, Afghanistan, Greece and Rome. When it was introduced to Japanese, they named it onion. 

    Western people like onion so much that they consider it to be the queen of vegetables. French people say that it brings glamour to all dishes. For them, a dish without it tastes insipid. Germans think that they would feel depressed if they do not eat onion one day. More interestingly, an American general once told his army that he was not able to think without onion. At present, the yield of onion in America is the largest in the world. Obviously, onion plays an important role in people’s life.

    Onion is not only a delicious vegetable, but also serves as a precious medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine indicates that it is useful to prevent diseases such as a cold, high blood pressure and many cardiovascular diseases. It is also able to detoxify and prevent from infections. Amazingly, it helps with the growth of hair. It has so many medical functions because there are many kinds of nutrition in it. According to a dietetic analysis, onion is rich in proteins, crude fibers and sugar. In addition to these substances, vitamins and minerals can be easily found in it. Besides, the citric acid, caffeic acid and multiple amino acids exist. Scientists prove that this vegetable is especially effectively when it is used to cure infected wounds and skin ulcer. Therefore, Japanese advocate the elderly to eat one onion a day to prevent from diseases and slow down the aging process.

    Except its functions in medical applications and health care, this vegetable does goods to the beauty. The vitamin B in it can resist skin diseases and promote the absorption of oxygen. Therefore, the formation of cells is quicker than usual and the ability of repair is strengthened. As a result, this is good for the cleanness of skin. It is reported that it can be made into masks. People can use such a mask and wash it after five to ten minutes. It is easy to find that the skin would be smoother and fewer freckles and wrinkles would be seen on the face. It is also said that washing hair with onion juice is effective in curing dandruffs.
