    (1942– ). An American born in Calvert City, Kentucky who won the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 2005 for his pioneering work concerning the development of the metathesis method in organic synthesis. Grubbs was awarded a B.S. and M.S. in chemistry from the University of Florida, and obtained his Ph.D. at Columbia University. He is the Victor and Elizabeth Atkins Professor of Chemistry at the California Institute of Technology and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences.
