The production method of this chemical is below: to get the sediment of erbium nitrate or the erbium sulfate solution with hydroxide, and then go through a list of process of seperating, firing to get the erbium oxide. The chemical equation of this production way is as below:  2Er(OH)3→Er2O3+3H2O.

It could be used as the additive agent for magnetic materials and fluorescent powder, and the material of special fluorescent glass; It could aslo be used as the control material for the YIG and nuclear reactor; It could be then used in producing the glass coloring agent.
