US 273174 A0 6 Jan 1984,19 pp. Avail. NTIS Order No. PAT-APPL-6-273 174. (English). (United States of America). CODEN: XAXXAV. APPLICATION: US 81-273174 12 Jun 1981. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 59 (Air Pollution and Industrial Hygiene) Section cross-reference(s): 29, 77, 79 SO2 reacts with (Me3Si)2NH (I) [999-97-3] to give Me3SiNSO (II) [89435-72-3], (Me3Si)2O [107-46-0], and a new solid compd., (NH4)(Me3Si)SO3 (III) [79209-10-2]. Both II and III have fluorescent properties, thus allowing the measurement of the concn. of SO2 in gases (e.g., air or flue gases) by bubbling a sample of the gas through a soln. of I, so that the SO2 present in the gas will react to form the 2 fluorescent products. Measurement of the fluorescence of these products can then be used to calc. the concn. of SO2 in the original gas sample. The solid product III can be used as a std. in solid-state NMR spectroscopy. III has an unusually high vapor pressure, a very low bulk d., and a heat of sublimation of ~15 kcal/mol and can be readily sublimed without undergoing decompn. III is very sol. in polar solvents. .

- Cellulosic semipermeable membranes. Li, George Su Hsiang (Standard Oil Co. (Ohio) , USA). Eur. Pat. Appl. EP 97424 A2 4 Jan 1984, 15 pp. DESIGNATED STATES: R: DE, FR, GB, IT, NL. (English). (European Patent Organization). CODEN: EPXXDW. CLASS: IC: B01D013-04; B01D053-22. APPLICATION: EP 83-302716 13 May 1983. PRIORITY: US 82-391216 23 Jun 1982.In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 9035-69-2 and 124-38-9 DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 43 (Cellulose, Lignin, Paper, and Other Wood Products) The title membranes are produced by casting cellulose deriv. soln. contg. silane or siloxane deriv. and are useful in sepg. a gaseous mixt. of CO2 and CH4 or O and N into enriched fractions of each. Thus, 5-10% soln. of ethyl cellulose [9004-57-3] contg. 30% hexamethyldisiloxane [107-46-0] in org. solvent was poured over a glass plate and dried in air for 24 h at ambient temp. to give a membrane having 178 CO2 permeability and 8.5 CO2/CH4 selectivity when exposed to a mixt. (3:) of CO2/CH4/N. .
