DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 51 (Fossil Fuels, Derivatives, and Related Products) Cloud-point depressants with corrosion-inhibiting properties for fuel oils and gas oils (b. 150-450°) were prepd. In this article, certain chemicals are used. Some of their cas registry numbers are 85688-08-0 and 109-76-2 by condensing dicarboxylic acids with amines or polyamines. Thus, 2700 g of a mixt. of N-palmityl-1,3-propanediamine [7173-60-6] and N-stearyl-1,3-propanediamine [4253-76-3] was combined with 699 g maleic anhydride [108-31-6] in 3750 g xylene and refluxed at 144° for 3 h. Part of the xylene was removed by distn. to give a 50% soln. contg. (by IR spectroscopy) imides, sec-amides, and sec-amines. This soln. was used to depress the cloud point of Aramco gas oil from +2° to -2° (at 0.2% additive concn.) and to completely inhibit corrosion of steel in seawater (at 0.1% additive concn.) at 32.2° for 20 h. .
