The medium and cells were passed upward at a rate of 313 mL/h through a column contg. 2137 g 12-30 mesh activated C. After 55.3 L effluent had passed through the column and been discarded, acetone vapor at 54° was passed through the column. A total vol. of 3.86 L and 161.6 g Bu butyrate. When the broth was not slowly passed through charcoal, the Bu butyrate yield was 5.63 g.
