CODEN: 51ALA3. DOCUMENT TYPE: Conference CA Section: 55 (Ferrous Metals and Alloys) Section cross-reference(s): 72 Dull or bright Ni electrodeposits and Ni-P alloy electroless deposits on steel were rapidly removed at 40-60° by a soln. consisting of ethylenediamine [107-15-3] 250, HNO3 60 mL/L, NH4NO3 50, and Na m-nitrobenzene sulfonate [127-68-4] 150 g/L. The HNO3 addn., causing ethylene diammonium dinitrate formation, appears to play an important role, esp. when lower quantities of ethylenediamine are used. The soln. is useful in prodn. practice for removal of defective Ni deposits from ferrous components without substrate attack. An adequate stripping rate is possible even with a £40 g Ni/L build-up in the soln. .
