DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 51 (Fossil Fuels, Derivatives, and Related Products) Highly basic Li sulfonates, useful as lubricating oil overbased detergents, are prepd. by azeotropically drying LiOH.H2O with a solvent, adding an alkoxy alc. and a sulfonic acid, overbasing the Li sulfonate with CO2, and removing residual solvent by distn. Alternatively, the alkoxyalc. can be added in the 1st step with the solvent to azeotropically dry the LiOH.H2O; a surfactant (i.e., polyisobutenylsuccinic anhydride) can also be added with the sulfonic acid to aid reaction. LiOH.H2O 588 g was azeotropically dried in the presence of PhMe 1200 g and 2-ethoxyethanol 1450 g to yield 98.8% of the water of hydration. Mixed alkylbenzenesulfonic acids (major component C24-branched alkyl, as 70% oil soln.) 536, polyisobutenylsuccinic anhydride 80, and oil diluent 473 g were added, and the mixt. 1310-66-3 and 108-30-5 which are cas registry numbers of substances are two of reagents here. carbonated to give a CO2 uptake of 300.7 g. Solvent removal and filtration yielded an overbased Li sulfonate (in 99.6% yield) with total base no. 468 mg KOH/g. .

DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 49 (Industrial Inorganic Chemicals) The process of manufg. of a single phase and layered alkali metal oxide having a formula HxA1-xMO2 where A is an alkali metal, x is 0-0.99, and M is a transition metal comprises reacting a transition metal hydroxide with a alkali metal source in a basic soln. in the presence of water at a pressure greater than atm. and at a temp. of 50-150°. The alkali transition metal oxides have high electrochem. properties. .
