Novel synthesis of pyrido[1,2-a]benzimidazoles via reaction of N-acyl arylhydroxylamines with pyridine.Some chemicals with cas registry numbers like 108160-94-7 and 1930-72-9 are also used. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 28 (Heterocyclic Compounds (More Than One Hetero Atom)) The redn. of 4-chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzonitrile via catalytic hydrogenation and/or TiCl, produced three successive isolable hydroxylamines I (R1, R2 = NO2, NHOH; NHOH, NHOH; NHOH, NH2) during complete redn. to the diamine I (R1 = R2 = NH2). The nitrohydroxylamine I (R1,R2 = NO2, NHOH) was acetylated to the mono-N-acetyl and bis-acetyl derivs., which reacted with pyridine to afford the pyrido[1,2-a]benzimidazole II (R1 = cyano). An analogous series of reactions was executed with 4-chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzotrifluoride to afford the pyrido[1,2-a]benzimidazole II (R1 = CF3). Structure confirmation of II (R1 = CF3) was established via an x-ray detn. .
