The inhibitors prevent corrosion of Al or Al alloy tanks contg. water without causing environmental pollution, and hence are useful for Al or Al alloy tanks during hydraulic testing. Thus, an Al alloy having a weld seam was immersed 15 days at 30° in tap water contg. 3 ppm 2-mercaptobenzoxazole [2382-96-9]. There was no appreciable corrosion.

Bis(thiourethanes) were obtained by reaction in MEK or Me2CO at pH 9-10. During reaction of I or II with IV at such pH, trimerization of the 1st-stage adducts occurred. No such trimerization occurred in the reaction of III with IV or the reaction of the other heterocyclic mercaptans with the diisocyanates. The bis(thiourethanes) are of interest for modifying polymers, as vulcanizing agents, and as adhesive components.
