EtOH yields 2,4-dialkyl-3,5-bis(arylimino)-1,2,4-thiadiazoles e.g. I, and N,N'-dialkyl-N''-aryl-N-benzothiazolylguanidines, e.g. II, as the final products. Thiazoles rearrange into the benzothiazolylguanidines in acidic solns. The formation of amidinothioureas as the precursors of thiadiazoles is established by their isolation from solns. which were partly oxidized. The redn. of the thiadiazoles gave an amidinothiourea which was different from that obtained by partial oxidn. of the thiourea. The reaction PhSO2Cl on these thioureas also yielded amidinothioureas. The NMR and mass spectra of the products obtained by the oxidn. of these thioureas are also discussed briefly. ..
