Tetramethyldiphosphine disulfide explosion
Tetramethyldiphosphine disulfide explosion. Bercaw, John E. (California Inst. Technol., Pasadena, CA, USA). Chem. Eng. News, 62(18), 4 (English) 1984. CODEN: CENEAR. ISSN: 0009-2347. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 59 (Air Pollution and Industrial Hygiene) Section cross-reference(s): 29, 50 Violent explosions occurring during the prepn. of tetramethyldiphosphine disulfide [3676-97-9] by reaction of thiophosphoryl chloride [3982-91-0] with methylmagnesium iodide [917-64-6] in Et2O [60-29-7] are reported; precautions and preventive measures, including the use of a powerful motor and the avoidance of cooling the reaction mixt. to too low a temp., are discussed. If 1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane [23936-60-9] is the reagent ultimately desired, an alternate procedure is recommended.
Polarographic behavior of phosphorus thiotrichloride
Polarographic behavior of phosphorus thiotrichloride. Kisil, L. M.; Osadchenko, I. M.; Tomilov, A. P. (USSR). Zh. Vses. Khim. O-va., 22(4), 456-7 (Russian) 1977. CODEN: ZVKOA6. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 72 (Electrochemistry) Section cross-reference(s): 79 The electroredn. of phosphorus thiotrichloride (I) [3982-91-0] was studied on a dropping Hg cathode in soln. of MeCN in a supporting electrolyte of 0.08M Et4NClO4. Under the conditions studied, the I gives a sharp polarogram with 2 waves having half-wave potentials of -0.30 and -0.84 V (vs. a Hg pool). At concns. <0.1 mM, the 2 waves merge. The limiting current of the 2nd wave is directly proportionate to the concn. in the range 0.1-0.4 mM. The process occurring at the 2nd wave of I involves the electroredn. of the P-halogen bond.
