Photochemical retro-aldol type reactions of nitrobenzyl derivatives
Photochemical retro-aldol type reactions of nitrobenzyl derivatives. Mechanistic variations in the elimination of nitrobenzyl carbanions from nitrobenzyl derivatives on photolysis. Some chemicals with cas registry numbers like 52022-77-2 and 106111-26-6 are also used. Wan, Peter; Muralidharan, S. (Dep. Chem., Univ. Victoria, Victoria, BC V8W 2Y2, Can.). Can. J. Chem., 64(9), 1949-51 (English) 1986. CODEN: CJCHAG. ISSN: 0008-4042. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 22 (Physical Organic Chemistry) The photochem. retro-aldol type reactions of nitrobenzyl derivs. are reported. The reactions are obsd. only in aq. soln. with quantum efficiencies being pH dependent for several derivs., consistent with the existence of several mechanistic paths for reaction. The primary photochem. event involves the generation of a nitrobenzyl carbanion, (which acts as a photolabile leaving group in these reactions) and the generation of an oxocarbocation (or oxocarbocation-derived) fragment. .
