DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 1 (Pharmacodynamics) In screening for an effective coccidiostatic drug applicable to poultry in drinking water, 13 sulfonamides and 2 diaminopyrimidines were tested. Sulfadimidine (I) [57-68-1] and diaveridine (2,4-diamino-5-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)pyrimidine)(II) [5355-16-8] were most effective. The optimum ratio of I and II was 4:1, and the min. ED and spectrum of action of the combination were detd. The prepn. Sulfakombin [65946-23-8], contg. I, II, methanesulfonic acid, triethanolamine, and triethyleneglycol, gave the best results in preclin. testing.

DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 3 (Biochemical Interactions) When tested in vitro, trimethoprim [738-70-5], ormetoprim [6981-18-6] and diaveridine [5355-16-8] were more active by themselves than in combination with sulfadimethoxine [122-11-2] and sulfaquinoxaline [59-40-5], against Salmonella cholerae suis, Pasteurella multiseptica, and Escherichia coli (isolated from piglets). Sulfadimethoxine and sulfaquinoxaline by themselves showed low activity. None of the compds. and combinations was active against E. coli isolated from calves or against Pseudomonas.
