N-chloramine agent Agent 1 (I) [58629-01-9] was superior to a currently used free Cl agent HTH (II) [7778-54-3] in stability under all conditions. The I does not damage materials or cause the formation of toxic triholomethanes to the extent of II, however, II is a faster-acting bactericide, virucide, and fungicide. The I performs as well as or even better than II against protozoans. It is recommended that I should be considered as a replacement for, or at least a supplement, II for field applications for water contg. appreciable org. load till a more effective N-chloramine disinfectant is found.
