- A rapid and specific titrimetric method for the precise determination of plutonium using redox indicator. Chitnis, R. T.; Dubey, S. C. (Fuel Reprocess. Div., Bhabha At. Res. Cent., Bombay, India). India, A. E. C., Bhabha At. Res. Cent. [Rep.], B. A. R. C.-850, 10 pp. (English) 1976. CODEN: IABRAA. DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 71 (Nuclear Technology) Section cross-reference(s): 79 A simple and rapid method is discussed for detg. Pu in Pu nitrate soln., and its application to process solns. from the reprocessing of irradiated fuel elements is described. The method involves the oxidn. of Pu to Pu(VI) with the help of AgO [1301-96-8], followed by the destruction of the excess AgO by using sulfamic acid. The detn. of Pu is completed by adding FeSO4.(NH4)2SO4.6H2O (I) [7783-85-9] soln. which reduces Pu(VI) to Pu(IV) and titrating the excess I with std. K2Cr2O7 soln. using Na diphenylamine sulfonate [30582-09-3] as the internal indicator. The effect of various reagents added during the oxidn. and redn. of Pu, on the final titrn. was studied. The method works satisfactorily for the anal. of Pu in the range 0.5-5 mg. The precision of the method is within 0.1%.
