- Manganese dioxide. Amano, Yasuji; Kumano, Yasuyuki; Nishino, Atsushi; Sonedaka, Kazunori (Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., Japan). Japan. JP 50024278 B4 14 Aug 1975 Showa, 3 pp. (Japanese). (Japan). CODEN: JAXXAD. CLASS: IC: C01G; B01K. APPLICATION: JP 67-11826 22 Feb 1967. DOCUMENT TYPE: Patent CA Section: 72 (Electrochemistry) A method for producing MnO2 by electrolyzing a bath consisting of an aq. soln. of a Mn salt, which comprises pouring a eutectic mixt. of wax and polypropylene on the bath to form an evapn.-preventing layer whose surface is molten where it is in contact with the bath but is in the semi-solid state where it is in contact with the atm. The MnO2 can be produced at low cost by use of a eutectic mixt. of wax and polypropylene as an evapn.-preventing agent which is obtained at low cost and has excellent thermal efficiency. It can be easily handled and has no bad effect on the elec. cells. Wax (Aristo wax) having a m.p. 9003-07-0 and 8002-74-2 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. of 125 to 165.degree.F and polypropylene residue having a m.p. higher than wax are mixed and melted at a wt. ratio of 3:1. The eutectic mixt. obtained has a m.p. of 73 to 76.degree. and is poured 5 to 6 mm thick over the surface of an electrolyte in a cell prior to electrolysis. .
- Hydrocarbon stationary phases for gas-liquid chromatography
- Hydrocarbon stationary phases for gas-liquid chromatography. Vernon, F.; Ogundipe, C. O. E. (Dep. Chem. Appl. Chem., Univ. Salford, Salford/Lancs., Engl.). J. Chromatogr., 132(2), 181-5 (English) 1977. CODEN: JOCRAM. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 80 (Organic Analytical Chemistry) For the use of squalane as a std. 111-01-3 and 8002-74-2 are cas registry numbers of chemicals which are used as reagents here. stationary phase in gas-liq. chromatog., a preliminary clean-up step is suggested in which the squalane, in a paraffin solvent, is passed successively through columns of activated C and Al2O3. A new std. nonpolar stationary phase, produced by the catalytic hydrogenation of an Apiezone grease, is described. It has the advantage over squalane of a max. operating temp. of 200.degree., allowing column polarities at high temp. to be evaluated. .
