Report, EPA-600/4-84-039; Order No. PB84-187772, 107 pp. Avail. NTIS From: Gov. Rep. Announce. Index (U. S.) 1984, 84(15), 89 (English) 1984. DOCUMENT TYPE: Report CA Section: 61 (Water) Section cross-reference(s): 60, 80 An interlab. study (20 labs.) was conducted to det. precision and accuracy for the proposed EPA Method 612, Chlorinated Hydrocarbons, for measuring concns. of the Category 3 chems. hexachloroethane [67-72-1], hexachlorobutadiene [87-68-3], 2-chloronaphthalene [91-58-7], 1,2-dichlorobenzene [95-50-1], 1,3-dichlorobenzene [541-73-1], 1,4-dichlorobenzene [106-46-7],1,2,4-trichlorobenzene [120-82-1], HCB [118-74-1], and hexachlorocyclopentadiene (I) in municipal and industrial aq. discharges. I was eliminated from the study because of its instability in the solvent used to prep. sample concs. The study design was based on Youden's plan for collaborative tests of anal. methods. Three Youden pair samples of the test compds. were spiked into 6 types of test waters and then analyzed. The test waters were distd. water, tap water, a surface water, and 3 different industrial wastewater effluents. The resulting data were statistically analyzed using a computer program entitled Interlab. Method Validation Study. In all cases, there was no evidence of a statistically significant effect on accuracy or precision due to water type.

- Teratogenic potential of inhaled dichlorobenzenes in rats and rabbits. Hayes, W. C.; Hanley, T. R., Jr.; Gushow, T. S.; Johnson, K. A.; John, J. A. (Toxicol. Res. Lab., Health and Environ. Sci. U.S.A., Midland, MI 48640, USA). Fundam. Appl. Toxicol., 5(1), 190-202 (English) 1985. CODEN: FAATDF. ISSN: 0272-0590. DOCUMENT TYPE: Journal CA Section: 4 (Toxicology) 2-Dichlorobenzene (ODCB)(I) [95-50-1] and 4-dichlorobenzene (PDCB) [106-46-7] were evaluated for teratogenic potential in rats (ODCB only) and rabbits. Groups of bred rats and inseminated rabbits were exposed to 0, 100, 200, or 400 ppm of ODCB; groups of inseminated rabbits were exposed to 0, 100, 300, or 800 ppm of PDCB. Animals were exposed for 6 h/day on days 6-15 (rats) or 6-18 (rabbits) of gestation. Maternal toxicity, as evidenced by a decrease in body wt. gain, was obsd. in all groups of ODCB-exposed rats and liver wt. increased in the 400-ppm ODCB-exposed group. Slight maternal toxicity was obsd. in groups of rabbits exposed to 400 ppm ODCB or 800 ppm PDCB as indicated by decreased body wt. gain during the 1st 3 days of exposure. Inhalation of £400 ppm of ODCB was not teratogenic or fetotoxic in rats, and neither ODCB nor PDCB was teratogenic or fetotoxic in rabbits at exposure levels £400 or 800 ppm, resp.
