General Description
Potassium periodate is a chemical compound with the formula KIO4. It is a white crystalline solid that is commonly used as an oxidizing agent in various chemical reactions and processes. Potassium periodate is highly soluble in water and has a high melting point, making it a useful compound in laboratory settings as well as industrial applications. It is also used in the synthesis of organic compounds and in the preparation of potassium iodate. Potassium periodate is considered to be relatively stable and non-toxic, and it is not known to have any significant harmful effects on human health or the environment when used properly and in accordance with safety guidelines.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 7790-21-8 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 7,7,9 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 7790-21:
(6*7)+(5*7)+(4*9)+(3*0)+(2*2)+(1*1)=118
118 % 10 = 8
So 7790-21-8 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Structure refinement of potassium periodate at 297 and 150 K
De Waal, Danita,Range, Klaus-Jürgen
, p. 444 - 446 (1996)
The scheelitetype structure of potassium periodate, KIO4, has been confirmed and refined from single-crystal X-ray data at two temperatures. The compound crystallizes tetragonally, space group I41/a, with a = 5.726(1), c = 12.607(4) ? at 297(1) K. and a = 5.704(3), c = 12.478(8) ? at 150(1) K, respectively. Except for a significant decrease in the anisotropic displacement factors, the changes in the structural parameters at low temperature are rather small.
