Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by tert-butyl-chloro-dimethyl-silane and prop-2-en-1-ol. This reaction will need reagent Et₃N, DMAP and solvent CH₂Cl₂. The reaction time is 2 hours with reaction temperature of 25 °C.

Uses of 2-Propen-1-ol,1-[(1,1-dimethylethyl)dimethylsilyl]-: it can be used to produce 2-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy-acetaldehyde at temperature of 23 °C. It will need reagent NaIO₄, OsO₄ and solvent diethyl ether, H₂O, 2-methyl-propan-2-ol with reaction time of 2 hours. The yield is about 42%.
