Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by phenol and but-1-ene at the temperature of 25 °C. This reaction will need reagent AlCl3 and solvent CHCl3 with the reaction time of 10 hours. The yield is about 45%.

Uses of 2-sec-Butylphenol: it can be used to produce allyl 2-sec-butylphenyl ether at the ambient temperature. It will need reagents 1 N aq. NaOH, benzyltri-n-butylammonium bromide and solvent CH2Cl2 with the reaction time of 2 hours. The yield is about 86%.
