The Oxirane,2-[(phenylmethoxy)methyl]- with CAS registry number of 89616-40-0 is also known as 2-(Benzyloxymethyl)oxirane and Benzyl glycidyl ether. In addition, the formula is C10H12O2 and the molecular weight is 164.20. This chemical is used as a epoxy thinner.
Preparation of Oxirane,2-[(phenylmethoxy)methyl]-: it is prepared by reaction of allyl-benzyl ether. The reaction needs reagents bis(trimethylsilyl) peroxide, ReO3, H2O and solvent CH2Cl2 at the temperature of 20 °C for 8 hours. The yield is about 95%.
Uses of Oxirane,2-[(phenylmethoxy)methyl]-: it is used to produce 1-O-benzyl-3-O-methylglycerol by reaction with methanol. The reaction occurs with reagent LiClO4 and other condition of heating for 3 hours. The yield is about 69%.
