- Diamine preparation for synthesis of a water soluble Ni(II) salen complex
-
A reliable and efficient synthesis of a Ni(II) salen complex useful in probing nucleic acid structure is described and illustrates a general approach for constructing cis diamines suitable for assembly into N2O2 Schiff base complexes. Two equivalents of an aryllithium reacted with 1,4- dimethylpiperazine-2,3-dione to form the symmetric α-dione. This material was then converted to its dioxime and reduced by TiCl4/NaBH4 to yield the meso-diamine. Condensation of the diamine and salicyladehyde, coordination of nickel and final methylation generated the desired water soluble and redox active complex.

- Cytotoxicity of new selenoimine, selenonitrone, and nitrone derivatives against human breast cancer MDA-MB231 cells
-
A series of new nitrone, selenoimine and selenonitrone derivatives were synthesized. Nitrone and selenonitrone derivatives were synthesized through the condensation reaction between N-mono substitutedhydroxylamine and carbonyl compounds substituted with electron donating groups, such as di(4-methoxy)benzoyl diselenide, 4-(N, N-dimethylamino) benzoyl selenonitrile and 4, 4'-di(N, N- dimethylamino)benzil, afforded a variety of new nitrone and selenonitrone compounds. Selenoimine derivative was synthesized through the condensation reaction between tert-butyl amine and (4-methoxybenzoyl selenonitrile). The yield of synthesized compounds (N1, N2, N3, N4 and N5 were (66, 60, 61, 62 and 45) %, respectively. The structures of the synthesized compounds were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and mass spectra. Cytotoxicity of selenonitrone (N1) and selenoimine (N3) derivatives against breast cancer cells (MDA-MB231) were evaluated for 24 and 48 h via MTT assay. The IC50 value of compound N1 was 1.714 and 1.897 μM for 24 h and 48 h, respectively. The IC50 value of compound N3 was 1.438 and 2.469 μM for 24 h and 48 h, respectively. The results suggested selenonitrone (N1) and selenoimine (N3) as anti-breast cancer potential lead compound with future merit investigations.

- Method for synthesizing benzil derivatives
-
The invention discloses a method for synthesizing benzil derivatives. The method comprises the steps that a diphenyl acetylene compound, halogenated ammonium salt or iodine chloride and a sulfur source serve as reactants, the reactants react in a solvent for a period of time, purification is conducted, and then the benzil derivatives are obtained. According to the method, a metal catalyst and toxic iodine are not used, the applied reactants are low in price, poisonless and tasteless, the operation method is simple, the yield is high, aftertreatment is easy, and the method is suitable for industrial production.

- NH4I/EtOCS2K promoted synthesis of substituted benzils from diphenylacetylene derivatives
-
A facile protocol is described for the synthesis of benzil derivatives from readily accessible diarylacetylene derivatives using the NH4I/EtOCS2K system. This novel protocol results in excellent chemoselectivity and provided good to excellent yields. A control experiment indicated that the reaction proceeds via NH4I promoted EtOCS2K dimerization to give the corresponding dixanthogen and subsequent dixanthogen assisted oxidation.

- An effective synthesis of N,N-dimethylamides from carboxylic acids and a new route from N,N-dimethylamides to 1,2-diaryl-1,2-diketones
-
Carboxylic acids were heated at 150 °C in DMF in the presence of 1.25 equiv of thionyl chloride to give corresponding N,N-dimethylamides in good yields. Tandem chlorination and amidation reactions occurred in the one-pot procedure. Dicarboxylic acids needed prolonged reaction time to produce bisamides in good yields. Some benzamides were efficiently converted into corresponding 1,2-diaryl-1,2-diketones (benzils) under acyloin condensation conditions in the presence of 4,4′-di-tert-butylbiphenyl (DBB) in THF. Ultrasonic irradiation effectively accelerates the reaction, but it is not critical. However, the presence of DBB is fatal to the reaction. Although a few synthetic methods for benzils from benzoic acids have been reported so far, this method is one of the most convenient and highly reproducible procedures.

- Ruthenium catalyzed oxidation of 1,2-diols to 1,2-diketones using bromamine-T as an oxidizing agent
-
A variety of 1,2-diols were selectively oxidized to their corresponding 1,2-diketones with bromamine-T using RuCl3 · xH2O as catalyst in alkaline acetonitrile/ water (1:1) medium. The reaction was pH dependent (pH 8.4), and at higher pH the rate of the reaction decreased significantly. Copyright Taylor & Francis, Inc.

- Direct Formation of Benzoins from Diarylmethanones via a Rearrangement Reaction Promoted by Samarium Metal in DMF
-
Diarylmethanones react readily with DMF when promoted by samarium metal in DMF with TMSCl or iodine as an activator, to afford benzoins in good to excellent yields via rearrangement of aryl groups. As for asymmetric diarylmethanones, products resulting from the migration of either aryl group were obtained, where the migration of aryl groups shows certain priority.

-
Prompted by samarium metal in DMF with TMSCl or iodine as an activator, or by SmI2/THF system, diarylmethanones react readily with DMF to afford benzoins in moderate to good yields via rearrangement of aryl groups. As for asymmetric diarylmethanones, products resulting from the migration of either aryl group were obtained, where the migration of aryl groups shows certain priority.
