A novel ruthenium photosensitizer, (2+), was found to have Λ-configuration predominantly and reduce catalytically with high enetioselectivity (kΛ/kΔ = 1.54) under irradiation of light (λ>400 nm) in ethanol/water (9:1 v/v).
