SYNTHESIS OF CROWN ETHERS BONDED TO A POLYSTYRENE MATRIX THROUGH AN AMIDO LINKAGE AND THEIR USE AS PHASE-TRANSFER CATALYSTS
Condensation of amino-functionalized crown ethers with microporous polystyrene bearing carboxyl groups afforded catalysts 15-18, in which the macrocyclic polyether is linked to the matrix through an amino bond.These catalysts are efficient anion activators in aliphatic nucleophilic substitutions under phase-transfer conditions.

Synthesis of Aminomethyl Crown Ethers
Various N-substituted or unsubstituted aminomethyl crown ethers, which possess a reactive amino group, were prepared in good yields by the reaction between 3-amino-1,2-propanediols or aminomethyl oligoethylene glycols and oligoethylene glycol ditosylates or dichlorides.The scope of the reaction was investigated and the complexing ability of these new crown ether derivatives with sodium and potassium ions in methanol was measured by potentiometric titration.
