Micelles made up of 6-methyl-2-hydroxymethylpyridine bromide in the presence of Zn(2+) substantially enhance the rate of hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl picolinate.Kinetic and chemical evidence indicates that Zn(2+) acts as a template for an intracomplex attack of the activated hydroxyl of the surfacant ligand to the carbonyl of the ester.
