2,4,6-Trinitrotoluene in presence of carboxylic acid chlorides and aromatic sulfonyl chlorides reacts with pyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline and 3-methylisoquinoline yielding the addition products, substituted in positions 4, 2, 1 and 1 of the amines, respectively (dihydro derivatives), including acyl groups attached to the nitrogen atom. 2,4-Dinitrotoluene under similar reaction conditions reacts only with isoquinoline.Mononitrotoluenes do not react with any of above mentioned amines.The structure of the products obtained is confirmed by the 1H NMR and IR spectra.
