Strontium or barium oxides and peroxides

Strontium and barium oxides and peroxides are chemical compounds involving strontium (Sr) or barium (Ba) bonded with oxygen (O), each with distinct properties and applications. Strontium oxide (SrO) and barium oxide (BaO) are basic oxides that react readily with water to form hydroxides, exhibiting high reactivity and serving as fluxes in ceramics, catalysts in chemical processes, and as additives in glass manufacturing. These oxides are essential in the production of ferrites and other magnetic materials due to their ability to enhance magnetic properties. Strontium peroxide (SrO2) and barium peroxide (BaO2), on the other hand, are peroxides characterized by their ability to release oxygen upon decomposition, making them useful as oxidizing agents and in oxygen-generating applications. Barium peroxide is used in pyrotechnics and in the production of hydrogen peroxide, while strontium peroxide finds application in oxygen candles and as an oxygen source in closed systems.
