Heart failure Treatments and drugs

Heart failure treatment involves a combination of medications, lifestyle changes, and in some cases, medical procedures aimed at managing symptoms, improving heart function, and reducing complications. Common medications used in heart failure treatment include diuretics (such as furosemide) to reduce fluid buildup and relieve symptoms like swelling and shortness of breath, ACE inhibitors (such as lisinopril) and ARBs (such as losartan) to widen blood vessels and lower blood pressure, beta-blockers (such as metoprolol) to reduce heart rate and improve heart function, and aldosterone antagonists (such as spironolactone) to reduce fluid retention and prevent further heart damage. Other drugs may include digoxin, which helps strengthen heart contractions, and sacubitril/valsartan, a combination medication that enhances heart function by inhibiting neprilysin and blocking the effects of angiotensin II. Lifestyle changes like reducing salt intake, managing weight, quitting smoking, and exercising regularly are also crucial in managing heart failure. In severe cases, medical procedures such as implantation of a pacemaker or cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) may be recommended to improve heart function and symptoms.
