IDO inhibitors

IDO inhibitors refer to a group of compounds designed to block the activity of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO), an enzyme involved in the metabolism of the essential amino acid tryptophan. IDO plays a critical role in immune regulation by catalyzing the conversion of tryptophan into kynurenine, which has immunosuppressive effects on T cells and promotes immune tolerance. By inhibiting IDO activity, these inhibitors aim to restore T cell function and enhance immune responses against tumors. IDO inhibitors are being investigated as potential therapies in cancer immunotherapy, particularly in combination with other immune checkpoint inhibitors like PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors, to overcome immune evasion mechanisms employed by tumors.
