Procollagen C Proteinase Inhibitor

Procollagen C-proteinase inhibitors are molecules that specifically inhibit the activity of procollagen C-proteinases (PCPs), also known as bone morphogenetic protein 1 (BMP-1). PCPs are essential enzymes involved in the maturation of collagen molecules within the extracellular matrix. They cleave the C-terminal propeptides of procollagens, facilitating the formation of mature collagen fibrils that provide structural support to tissues and organs. Inhibiting PCPs can impact collagen maturation and turnover, potentially affecting tissue remodeling processes such as wound healing, bone formation, and maintenance of connective tissues.
