Estrogen / progestogen Receptor agonists

Estrogen/progestogen receptor agonists are pharmaceutical agents that mimic the action of natural hormones like estrogen and progestogen. These compounds bind to estrogen receptors (ER) and/or progesterone receptors (PR) present in various tissues throughout the body. By binding to these receptors, agonists activate downstream signaling pathways that regulate gene expression and cellular functions involved in growth, differentiation, and maintenance of reproductive tissues and other organs. Estrogen/progestogen receptor agonists are utilized therapeutically in hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for menopausal symptoms, contraception, and management of conditions such as endometriosis and certain types of cancers that are hormone-sensitive. They are designed to either mimic the effects of endogenous hormones or modulate receptor activity to achieve desired clinical outcomes while minimizing adverse effects.
