Androgen Receptor agonists
Androgen receptor (AR) agonists are compounds that activate the androgen receptor, a nuclear hormone receptor involved in mediating the effects of androgens such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Upon binding to the androgen receptor, agonists induce conformational changes that promote receptor dimerization and translocation to the nucleus. Inside the nucleus, the receptor-ligand complex binds to androgen response elements (AREs) in the DNA, leading to the transcriptional regulation of target genes involved in various physiological processes. These include the development and maintenance of male secondary sexual characteristics, regulation of reproductive tissues, bone metabolism, and muscle growth. Androgen receptor agonists may be used therapeutically in conditions such as hypogonadism, male infertility, and certain types of cancer where androgen signaling modulation is beneficial.
