Androgen Receptor Antagonists
Androgen receptor antagonists are compounds that block the activity of the androgen receptor (AR), a nuclear receptor protein that binds to androgens such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). By antagonizing the AR, these compounds prevent androgens from exerting their effects on target tissues, thereby inhibiting androgen-dependent signaling pathways. This pharmacological action is particularly relevant in the treatment of conditions where excessive androgen activity contributes to disease progression, such as prostate cancer and hirsutism.
