Androgen Receptor modulators
Androgen receptor modulators, also known as AR modulators or SARMs (selective androgen receptor modulators), are a class of compounds that selectively bind to androgen receptors in various tissues throughout the body. Unlike traditional androgens like testosterone, which activate androgen receptors indiscriminately, AR modulators exert tissue-selective effects, meaning they may stimulate receptor activity in certain tissues (such as muscle and bone) while minimizing or avoiding activation in others (like the prostate). This selectivity is advantageous as it reduces the potential for unwanted side effects commonly associated with traditional androgens. AR modulators have been investigated for their potential therapeutic applications in conditions such as muscle wasting diseases, osteoporosis, and hypogonadism.
