Estrogen / progestogen Receptor Antagonists
Estrogen and progestogen receptor antagonists are compounds that block the binding of estrogen or progestogen hormones to their respective receptors in cells. By inhibiting these receptors, antagonists prevent the hormonal signals from being transmitted, thereby interfering with the biological effects normally triggered by estrogen or progestogen. These effects can include the regulation of cell growth, differentiation, and other physiological processes. Antagonists of estrogen and progestogen receptors are used therapeutically in conditions where reducing the effects of these hormones is beneficial, such as in the treatment of hormone-dependent cancers like breast or prostate cancer, as well as in managing conditions like endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
