Endothelin Receptor Antagonists
Endothelin receptor antagonists (ERAs) are pharmaceutical compounds that block the action of endothelin receptors, specifically ETA and ETB receptors. Endothelin receptors are part of the G protein-coupled receptor family and are found in various tissues throughout the body, including vascular smooth muscle cells and the heart. Endothelin is a potent vasoconstrictor and plays a significant role in regulating blood vessel tone and vascular function. By blocking endothelin receptors, ERAs inhibit the vasoconstrictive effects of endothelin, leading to vasodilation and improved blood flow.
