CaSR activator
A Calcium-Sensing Receptor (CaSR) activator is a compound that stimulates the activity of the CaSR, a G protein-coupled receptor crucial for sensing and regulating extracellular calcium levels. The CaSR is primarily expressed in parathyroid glands, kidneys, and bone cells, where it plays a pivotal role in calcium homeostasis by regulating parathyroid hormone secretion, renal calcium reabsorption, and bone metabolism. Activating the CaSR can lead to decreased parathyroid hormone secretion and increased urinary calcium excretion, thereby helping to maintain calcium balance in the body. CaSR activators are studied in the context of treating disorders like hyperparathyroidism and hypocalcemia, where aberrant CaSR signaling contributes to disease pathology.
