Integrase Inhibitors

Integrase inhibitors are antiviral drugs that specifically target the integrase enzyme used by retroviruses, such as HIV, to insert their genetic material into the host cell's DNA. By inhibiting this enzyme, integrase inhibitors prevent the integration of viral DNA into the host genome, a critical step in the viral replication cycle. This effectively blocks the ability of the virus to replicate and produce new virus particles, thereby reducing viral load and slowing the progression of the infection. Integrase inhibitors are a key component of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV/AIDS, providing an essential tool in the management and treatment of HIV-positive individuals.
