 Cibenzoline (CAS NO.53267-01-9) is an antiarrhythmic. It is not a beta-adrenoceptor antagonist. Cibenzoline restricted slow inward current because it  was negatively inotropic, and shifted the relation between [Ca2+]o and force of contractions to the right, and increased A-H conduction time. It completely prevented the shortening of APD90 which induced by h ypoxia, and the shortening of APD50 and APD20 was much attenuated. There was no protection against hypoxic depression of contractions. 
  Cibenzoline did not affect electrophysiologic properties of the atrium or atrioventricular node. Research has shown that it is very important that check Cibenzoline levels regularly in patients receiving long-term therapy with this drug so as to avoid the possibility of severe drug-induced heart failure.
