A variety of copal fossil resin. The natural product is insoluble in organic solvents but forms transparent gels with some alcohols and hot solvents. When thermally processed (cracked), it is soluble in all organic solvents, fatty acids, and vegetable oils. Its high acid number prevents its use in paints containing reactive pigments.

Use:

High-gloss varnishes, paints for metal surfaces, wrinkle finishes.
