(flavoprotein). An enzyme composed of protein linked to coenzymes that are mono- or dinucleotides containing riboflavin. Because of their distinctive color, they are also called yellow enzymes. The flavin enzymes function in tissue respiration as dehydrogenases, the hydrogen atoms being taken up by the riboflavin group.
